I'm a Product Design Lead, Mentor @DesignLab, Ex-Design Manager, and a General Assembly alum. That’s all to that say that I’ve done my fair share of writing and reviewing UX case studies. UX design case studies are starting to look and sound alike, and frankly, boring and forgettable. Though all good case studies share the same foundational components, how you tell the story is a major part of making it memorable. It makes a big difference.

This guide walks you through a sequence of questions that I ask myself as I review case studies. You'll craft your narrative simply by answering them.

Consider that your case study is having a diagloue with the reader (hiring manager or recruiter). Have your case study answer these questions for the reader.

1. What is the solution?

2. What is the scope of this project?

3. What is the problem?

4. What is the backstory?

5. What were the challenges and obstacles?

6. How did you approach the problem?

7. How did it end?

8. If there was a sequel, what could we expect?
